Understand the operational system first.
An industrial software requirement sits within a physical operation. Map the process, the systems involved and the information needed by people planning, producing, maintaining and reporting on the work.
Identify the boundary between business software and operational technology. Equipment access, supplier responsibilities and safety-critical functions must be understood before proposing a connection or change. A business application must not be assumed to replace a control or safety system.
Reliable integrations, explicit ownership.
Determine which system owns each item of information and how updates are exchanged. Consider intermittent connectivity, delayed events, duplicate records and reconciliation, rather than design only for a successful transfer.
Interface documentation and supplier access can shape feasibility. Agree how integrations will be tested, monitored and supported, and who can investigate a failure at each boundary. Changes to a connected system may require coordinated review beyond the application team.
Operational data people can act on.
A useful view of the operation depends on consistent definitions and dependable source data. Agree the meaning, timeliness and limitations of the measures before designing a dashboard around them.
Expose missing or stale information clearly and provide a route to investigate it. Traceability from a displayed value to its source can matter as much as presentation. Start with decisions the information needs to support, not an assumption that more visualisation will solve the problem.
Deployment around real constraints.
Plan access, environments, testing and release windows with the people responsible for the operation. A technically complete application may still need training, data preparation and operational acceptance before it can be introduced.
Agree rollback, recovery and support responsibilities against the actual environment. Any specialist industrial, equipment, IoT or digital-twin scope requires its own feasibility and evidence review; it should not be inferred from a general systems-integration capability.
